This sketch begins to try and speak about the intersection of spaces and what kind of relationships that can begin to be explored. The void in the middle allows for a major prominent intersection to define the spatial characteristics around that area.
This is a very compelling sketch. It looks like your definitely onto something in playing around with ideas of void and solid. The sketch also starts to imply ideas of overlapping layers of space. Right now there isn't a clear hierarchy to the composition, but I can imagine that through further iterations you could begin to develop a series of systems. I would suggest to continue to work in this medium. Nice job!
